Welcome to Elmwood Presbyterian PDF Print E-mail
One of the things that tend to bring great joy and togetherness to families is the celebration of special birthdays or anniversaries. It seems that you can hardly pass the Laurelhill Sportszone without your eye being caught by a bright homemade banner proclaiming that "Laura is 21" or "James is 30" or "Margaret has hit the BIg 5-0h!!"

As we embark on a new Church session we do so with that air of celebration, as together we mark the occasion of our 31st anniversary. The first services in Elmwood were held in early September 1976 under the ministry of the young Rev Robert Lockhart.

Birthdays and anniversaries tend to cause us to reminisce a little about the past and as we will undoubtedly have cause to do that over the coming months, may it be with a real sense of thankfulness to God, who is "from everlasting to everlasting", for all His goodness to us as a congregation - everything that has been accomplished in Elmwood is due to Him. Let us also be mindful of many brothers and sisters in Christ who have worshipped and worked alongside us in previous times, but who are no longer with us, having moved on or gone to their heavenly home.

This significant occasion also gives us the opportunity to look forward and strive to build on what has gone before. A new session brings with it new changes - hopefully by early September we will have the addition of a new sound and vision system and new (more comfortable!) chairs in our building.

These are exciting and opportune days for Elmwood and as we begin the work of a new autumn and winter there is much to build on from past days and many new challenges to meet, not least the vast new housing developments around the North Lisburn feeder road, which will see the construction of almost 3000 homes in the next few years. Let us enjoy our celebrations but us them as a spur to even greater efforts.

".....each one should be careful how he builds. For no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ". 1 Cor 3
